Ingredients

  • chicken wings — 1kg
  • plain flour — 50g
  • ketchup — 200ml
  • brown sugar — 3 tbsp
  • worcestershire sauce — 2 tbsp
  • apple cider vinegar — 1 tbsp
  • smoked paprika — 1 tsp

Method

  1. 1

Preheat your oven to 200C/180C fan.

  2. 2

Toss the chicken wings in plain flour until evenly coated, then spread on a lined baking tray.

  3. 3

Bake the wings for 35-40 minutes until crispy and golden.

  4. 4

While the wings bake, combine ketchup, brown sugar, worcestershire sauce, vinegar, and smoked paprika in a saucepan. Simmer over medium heat for 5-8 minutes until thickened.

  5. 5

Remove the wings from the oven, brush generously with the BBQ sauce, and return to the oven for a final 5 minutes to create a sticky glaze.

  6. 6

    Serve hot.

Why this works

The combination of the flour coating ensures extra crispiness, while the homemade glaze balances the acidity of the vinegar with the sweetness of the sugar for that classic sticky texture.
