Ingredients

  • Baguette — 6 slices
  • Cream cheese (full fat) — 60g
  • Smoked salmon — 100g
  • Fresh dill — 5g
  • Lemon juice — 1 tsp
  • Olive oil — 1 tbsp

Method

  1. 1

Slice the baguette into 6 equal rounds, brush lightly with olive oil and toast until golden brown and crispy.

  2. 2

In a small bowl, mix the cream cheese with the lemon juice and half of the finely chopped fresh dill.

  3. 3

Once the bread has cooled slightly, spread an even layer of the seasoned cream cheese onto each slice.

  4. 4

Take the smoked salmon and tear it into strips, folding them gently on top of the cream cheese to create height.

  5. 5

Garnish with the remaining sprigs of fresh dill and serve immediately.

Why this works

The combination works because the cool, tangy cream cheese perfectly balances the rich, oily saltiness of the smoked salmon, while the toasted bread provides the essential crunch to contrast the soft toppings.
