Ingredients

  • rolled oats (dry) — 50g
  • semi-skimmed milk — 250ml
  • smooth peanut butter — 20g
  • raspberry jam — 15g
  • pinch of salt — 1g

Method

  1. 1

Place the oats, milk, and a pinch of salt into a small saucepan.

  2. 2

Bring the mixture to a gentle boil over medium heat, then reduce the heat to low.

  3. 3

Simmer for 5 to 7 minutes, stirring frequently with a wooden spoon, until the oats are creamy and have absorbed most of the milk.

  4. 4

Remove the pan from the heat and stir in half of the peanut butter.

  5. 5

Transfer the porridge to a serving bowl.

  6. 6

Swirl the remaining peanut butter and the raspberry jam on top of the porridge before serving.

Why this works

The saltiness and healthy fats of the peanut butter perfectly balance the sweetness of the fruit jam, creating a classic flavour profile known as the 'PB&J' that adds depth to humble, creamy porridge oats.
